A Wednesday Night Out

I'm not one to go out during the week, but it was the end of March, the beginning of spring, 30 degrees and snowing on my Spring Break, so I decided that I needed a night out.  It just so happens one of my good work friends felt the same way.

We met at a nice little spot downtown that neither of us had been to before.  Metro Bar + Kitchen had a nice happy hour with $4 martinis, so that's where we started.  We proceeded to spend the next 4 1/2 hours enjoying martinis and chatting away.

There is nothing like a good night out with a friend, even if you see that friend five days a week at work.  It's nice to get out of that environment and just catch up on everything you don't talk about with little ears around listening.  I have found that having those nights with friends are what keeps me sane, and I think everyone needs those.  Girlfriends are something that I appreciate and am truly thankful for.  And getting to go out on a weeknight, have drinks and dinner and a great talk, makes it that much better.

The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, and I would like to go back when their patio is open.  I like patios and drinking outside....can you tell?

A Sure Sign of Summer

It is finally Spring in Cleveland, although the 30 degree weather doesn't really make it feel like Spring.  Thank goodness the sun has been shining the last few days, or I would think Winter was beginning all over again.

I was recently out at The South Side, a delicious little restaurant in Tremont with some work friends to kick off our spring break.  First, the food.  Although our real intention was to go and have a few adult beverages, we happened to order some food after looking at the menu.  We split the hummus appetizer and it was delicious, and I had the sourdough grilled cheese sandwich minus the tomato but add a fried egg...YUM!!  I definitely recommend eating there and absolutely plan on going back.  They have an adorable little patio that I will be visiting as soon as summer arrives...whenever that may be.

Back to the sign that Summer is arriving.  Leinenkugels Summer Shandy is back!  This honey and lemon flavored beer is the perfect reminder that Summer is close.  And they even had it in a can!  For some reason that made it taste even better.  I can't wait to enjoy this drink in the sun this Summer.

Cheers to Summer, hopefully arriving sooner rather then later.

An Orchid Afternoon

Let me just start by saying that I absolutely love flowers.  Not the kind that you just go to a store and can pick out a bouquet.  Flowers that live for a week in a vase are not the kinds of flowers I enjoy.  I love a garden full of beautiful flowers and cannot wait for spring to get here so I am able to get outside and plant some myself.

Since spring in Cleveland does not arrive until the end of May, I decided to take my first trip to Orchid Mania, which was being put on at The Cleveland Botanical Gardens.  Not only were the everyday flowers and plants that were there beautiful, but the orchids were amazing.  I never knew just how many different types and colors of orchids there were.  I highly suggest visiting if you can before this Sunday when the show is over.

If not, you can definitely join me there next year because I will absolutely be going back.

Zumba on Steroids

Over the last few months I have had the wonderful opportunity to help coach my high schools cheer team.  I hadn't been back since I graduated and I had such a great time with the team.

Last night was our last practice and one of the mom's decided as a little goodbye she was going to bring her Zumba instructor to practice so we could have a little session with him.  Imagine...two men from Trinidad, who have been doing Zumba for years, and have more spunk and energy than the entire cheer team put together.

It was awesome and we all had a great time.  To bad I can barely lift my arms today.

Missing Branches

After a nice Monday at work and successfully completing some errands (I really do not enjoy grocery shopping one bit), I finally made it home.

Except something was different.  So different I almost drove right past my own house.

When I left this morning, this tree had branches on it.  Lots of them.  Now it is just a trunk and there is sawdust/woodchips all over my yard.

I'm assuming when I get home tomorrow I might not have a tree at all.  You have no idea how weird it is to look out the front door and see so much more than you have before.

Maybe this is a good thing though.  Now I will be able to fix that buckling sidewalk, which is only buckling because of the huge tree roots underneath it.  I guess I will just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings, and if today is the last day I have a tree on my tree lawn.
