the 8th grade trip that I didn't get to take

Last weekend Ben and I took a quick trip down to Washington D.C.  We decided on Tuesday that we would be taking the trip and really only had about 48 hours to see everything.  Yes, impossible I know, but we tried our hardest.

We made a pit stop in Hagerstown, Maryland to visit his Memo first.  We had lunch at her country club and it was nice to spend some time with her.

Then we were off to Arlington, Virginia where his Aunt Kay lives and was so generous to let us stay with her for the weekend.  We hung out in downtown Arlington for a while and grabbed a quick snack and drink.  We visited with his aunt for awhile and then went off to Georgetown for the night.

Saturday we got up early and walked ALL OVER the National Mall and through D.C.  We saw as much as we could and we utterly exhausted by 6 p.m.

Thank goodness his aunt wanted to make us dinner that night because I don't think I could have done anything else except sit, eat, and drink.

Sunday morning we went back into the city to check out the National Cathedral and the National Zoo.  We stopped back in Arlington for a quick lunch, which included $2 Bloody Mary's!!, and then we were back on the road and headed home.

Overall, it was a great weekend.  I saw so much that I've never had the chance to see before and it was great to do it all with Ben.

Hopefully more travels will be in our future, although with both of us working weekends now, that might not be possible anytime soon!

Picture post to come soon....

because one job just isn't enough

This past weekend Ben and I went to Washington DC which I will be blogging about in the future.  Hopefully the near future.

I did stick to my goal of taking more pictures and I will definitely include some of those too.

The reason for tonight's post is to discuss why I find the need to work two jobs.

During my senior year of college I had to student teach.  This meant I would spend an entire semester with a full time job that I was not getting paid for.  So I turned to serving.  I started waiting tables with one of my closest friends who was also student teaching at the time.  I continued to work at that restaurant for 3 years (while also teaching full time) until I thought I needed a change and went with Ben to open a restaurant in Chagrin Falls.

I worked there for about 6 months before I decided the drive sucked and I wanted to have a normal life and only work one job.

Here is the problem with that.  I missed the money, and without the extra money I couldn't go out and do much, and Ben was still working so he wasn't around.  Well it took me a year and a half to decide to go back to the restaurants.

Ben is helping to open up a new restaurant called Market Garden Brewery and I have spent a lot of my time sitting at Bar Cento and have gotten to know a lot of the people that will also be working there.  So, I figured why not.

It all begins tomorrow and I'm excited and a little nervous about getting back into it.  This will be my first job as a host which is different, but I'm looking forward to it.

The only bad thing is that I have to cancel on my monthly dinner to work.  This totally sucks!!!  But how can you tell your new boss who hired you because someone else said give this girl a job, that you can't work because you have to go out to eat.  I will make it up to them and we might even try a lunch!

More posts to come!

Whoa...2 weeks went fast!

What a bad blogger I have been.  But to my defense, there are a few reasons.

- The beginning of June is always super busy with the school year ending.

- I spent way to many nights going out to celebrate school ending.  I mean, come on it only happens once a year every year for the rest of my life.  I seriously lived it up for like a full week.  If I didn't go out for happy hour, I went out for dinner, or for drinks after dinner, or I went out for dinner and then came home and had drinks.

- Last Friday I fell asleep at 7 p.m. Yep that's right.  See previous reason as to why I haven't been blogging and this makes sense.  I also fell asleep Saturday at 9:30.  Needless to say I did not have a crazy weekend full of so much stuff that there was no time to blog.  I was just catching up on sleep.

- And last but not least, I freaked out about blogging and putting information about myself out there.  I heard a horrible story that is very local and very true about someone who was physically attacked due to a FB post.  This scared the sh*t out of me.  So I stayed away from the blog.  Why? I don't know because no one follows me and would ever be able to track me down (fingers crossed) but I still panicked.

Anyway, some good things that have happened.

- Ben had a birthday and we had a delicious dinner to celebrate.

- School is out for the year! (or the summer at least)

- Mary had her wedding shower and it was perfect.  Today in the mail I got the invitation to her Bachelorette party and already can't wait.

- I am broke, but insisted on shopping anyway because it is summer and you always need new summer clothes!

I think that is the jist of the exciting stuff.  I will blog more, I will blog more, and I won't be afraid!

Here's to a wonderful summer ahead :)

Productive weekends leave little time for blogging

Happy Late Memorial Day!  And happy summer!

I love three day weekends (I love weekends in general) and I love knowing summer is right around the corner.

This weekend was extra busy and fun filled.  I do not have pictures to document any of it, which is a failure of my new goal (see post on taking more pics) but it was awesome either way.

Friday night we went out for a family friend's 21st birthday at West Park Station.  It was a great time, as 21st birthdays always are.

Saturday I cleaned house, hung out with my mom, had dinner at Tartine Bistro and dessert at this great new gelato place in Rocky River.  Then I headed out to the eastside to hang out with friends to celebrate a birthday.

Sunday, I finally got some mulching done with my mom (thank goodness for her help!)  Then we went to another birthday party for a family friend.  Maybe I should have titled this post 'A weekend of b-days.'  I didn't even realize until I wrote it all down how much birthday celebrating went on this weekend.

Sunday night Ben came home from Belize and I was and am so happy to have him back!

Monday we finished mulching, grabbed some fast food for lunch and then Ben was off to work.  I had a delicious rib dinner with my parents and tried to get to bed early, which is very difficult when it is 90 degrees and you're to cheap to turn on the air.

I'm happy it has cooled off a little bit, but I don't mind the heat after all of the rain we've had!

And it's already Wednesday which means another weekend is right around the corner!
